Commissar Sergei Malik was the head of the Committee for Public Security in Remonton in 1016 AE when the city was briefly ruled by the Proninist Party. He was captured and taken into custody after the Second Battle of Remonton when Marcus Sarillius reclaimed the city. He told Marcus that the Proninists would return to Remonton and put an end to Marcus's rule someday. This speech in part prompted Marcus to form the Grand Alliance again in order to protect Remon from the Proninist menace. Malik escaped from captivity one year later with his loyal minion Vladimir Nabokov. The duo headed for Sanae where they began to think of ways to usher in a new Proninist regime among elves. After losing Nabokov in the Dweller attack, Malik sided with Dylas Rin Theron with hopes of becoming the leader of the surviving Remonians and ushering in a new Proninist regime.
