A beast is a natural creature born of flesh and not of magic, which makes it different from plant creatures and magical creatures. Many but not all beasts act on bare instinct and are usually not as sophisticated as humanoids who tend to have more complex societies. Many beasts have no magic abilities and cannot speak; notable exceptions include dragons and kitsune. There are many different types of beasts including amphibians, arachnids, birds, fish, insects, mammals and reptiles in the Land of the Living and other realms.
